Staff from the famous Bury Black Pudding Company have become the latest recruits to join a growing list of prestigious Manchester restaurants helping local charity, Coffee 4 Craig, in their efforts to feed the homeless in Manchester's city centre. On Tuesday 8th September the Bury Black Pudding Company cooked up a feast for over 100 people who were spending the night on Manchester's streets.
Peter Winkler, from the Bury Black Pudding Company said: "We are a local company and always like to do what we can to support local good causes. The team at Coffee 4 Craig are doing a brilliant job, which is especially important as the winter nights begin to draw in and conditions get worse. As one of the North West's most distinctive regional food brands we are pleased to be involved and hope that our efforts have helped."
Food was prepared at the company's factory at Heap Bridge in Bury, before being transported to Piccadilly in Manchester where the team from Coffee 4 Craig were waiting with their serving operation and a sizeable crowd. On the menu was a warming sausage and bury black pudding casserole with plenty of vegetables and crusty bread. Sandwiches and fruit were also offered as well as hot drinks. Staff even brought food and bowls for the four legged companions who accompany many of Manchester's homeless.
Company Director, Anita Kirkman, who helped to serve the food on the night said: "Being right there on the streets gives you a very real perspective of the problem. While some companies waste tremendous amounts of food every day, I think that it is wonderful that we are able to give these people a hot meal at a time when they really need it. I would certainly encourage other companies to get involved."
